We enjoyed quite feast with our host family. Check out the cake! Our host family in Cuenca has been extremely hospitable and we´ve had a lot of spanish practice. Alicia (our Cuenca mom) is awesome in many ways, but above all her cooking is the best. It is a mix of Italian and Ecuatoriano and other things. Que riquicimo!

The whole gang. Unfortunately my camera was acting up, the pictures are a little fuzy.

Note from Emily to her family back in Fairfield: I hope that you prepared and enjoyed my cake 🙂

The house is almost packed up now. Less than three days until we have to move out. Poor Thandi, she’s going to miss the neighbor dog, Dirby.
It’s pretty sad for all of us, we love this place. Knowing that it is going to get torn down eventually makes it a little easier to leave, but all the same… the yard, our porch, we’ve even been getting to know the neighbors better the last few weeks. Ironic, we’re about to take off and it feels like we’re settling in even more.

Oh well!
Boxes...weeee!

I think we’ve both got some jitters about leaving, it’s nerve wracking and exciting at the same time. Some moments I can’t believe what we’re doing and the next I can’t wait to get out of here. These next couple weeks are going to be pretty crazy.

In the beginning…

There was nothing.

Then Chris figured out what he was doing and made an update, and it was good.

Right now we are just absorbed with the boring details of trying to get our life in order for a year long absence. Getting storage for our stuff, buying packs and other gear, packing up the place (haven’t even started yet!), and other delightful aspects of pre-trip prep.
